"The diversity of projects with which I have been involved have given me a wide range of skills. From original music composition, to DVD video production, it seems that almost everything I do involves all those skills - and the one skill which binds them all together is my creativity."

Les Konley, Owner - Imperfection Studios

Les has played the piano since age 7, and the first thing he ever bought with his own allowance money was a portable tape recorder when he was 8 so that he could record sound effects. He has been working with computers and programming since age 11 - and that included programming sound effects starting way back in 1977. He used his father's reel-to-reel tape recorder, along with his portable and a turntable, to engineer plays-on-tape of his own creations, with narration, sound effects and music tracks, even before he was in high school. In 1987, he produced his first full-production video, with a mixed music soundtrack, using linear video editing. Since then, he's been creative with computers, video and synthesis in many ways, and composed his first multitimbral song with a Roland D-50 in 1990 by overdubbing cassette tapes, and used a programmed drum loop on an Amiga computer.

His work with graphic arts, database development, application programming and website design during the 1990's funded the acquistion of equipment for his studio... and he spent most of his free time learning how to use it all and composing new music. The studio hats he now wears include audio engineer, mastering engineer, and producer. The musician hats he wears include keyboardist, percussionist, effects vocals, sound designer, and synth programmer, among others.

Being multitalented is a requirement in this industry, and Les has over five years of studio composition and recording experience, all based on his background of studying piano and music theory when he was young. Les has also been a computer animator since 1982, a videographer since 1987, and a web application developer since 1999 - and is a certified Advanced Cold Fusion application developer. Currently, he is being mentored by Emmy nominated composer Charles Fernandez on the Music for the Media course from the Film Music Institute out of Los Angeles; and has recently completed the production of his first full-length CD album, Local Anesthetic - Altered States of Mind, which is now available on Amazon.com and CDBaby.com.

The following are some of the most recent accomplishments produced at Imperfection Studios, which include DVD production, custom music, studio recording, production remixing, and a full-length studio CD album.

Studio Album: Local Anesthetic - Altered States of Mind
Songs composed since 1998 have been collected and arranged on our freshmen attempt at putting together a full length album. The songs are widely varied in style, from pop and piano rock ballads, to techno dance, instrumentals and experimental music.

This CD is now available for sale. Click here for more information about the album on this website, or go directly to our CDBaby.com to purchase or review your copy today.

Scott Thomas and the John Deere Project - 2003
Bluegrass Studio Recordings: Two bluegrass guitarists from Montana were in the area, and by word of mouth arranged a session and nailed down 18 tracks of guitar duets in some six hours of studio time. The musicians were able to take home a rough mixdown of their session on CD, and a master CD was crafted and sent out to them within a week.

The functions performed by the studio included setup and microphone placement, recording, sound engineering, mixdown and mastering of the 18 songs.

Please download and listen to a song selected from this session.

DVD Production: Deception of Dysfunction - 2003
A 15 minute DVD production in the E! Hollywood True Story style. The studio was approached to compile home movies of a Great Lakes Aviation pilot into a best-of type DVD for the pilot's suprise birthday party, with the additional requirement to come up with a plausable fiction story in narration to augment the old videos.

Imperfection Studios fuctions included digital capture of VHS home movies, non-linear digital video editing, original music composition for the soundtrack, mastering, graphics, titling, special effects, voiceover, and arrangement. The production took approximately a week to print the final DVD, and we got word that the DVD was the hit of the party.

Television Jingle: Video Game Fury - 2003
This was a concept song for a one minute commercial for the Sony Play Station 2.

Composed and recorded within three days, the project involved writing lyrics, composing an original tune, and overdubbing the vocal track. Future tentative plans include creating the actual commercial video to accompany the song as a pitch to Sony.

You can download Video Game Fury.mp3 and listen to it right now!

Home Studio Musicians Association - Founder
The Home Studio Musicians Association (HSMA) was founded by studio owner, Les Konley, as a collaboration website specifically for musicians with home studios, and for those musicians to have a place to show off their studios. With the proliferation of affordable professional audio gear and aspiring composers worldwide, the HSMA's time has come.

The Association as a legal entity is still in its formative stages, and marketing and press releases for the site are in the works during the next couple of months.

As stated on the homestudiomusicians.com website, the HSMA will hopefully become one of the main places the music industry will come looking, not for performance bands, but for new, fresh original music for film, television, commercials, radio, video games and corporate video.

Artopia 2002 Fashion Show Music (Denver, CO)
Imperfection Studios was given the opportunity to create the production remix of music which was played during the Artopia 2002 Fashion Show, presented by Serina Grey. We were given specific song sets with specific timings, which required us to 'lengthen' songs by repeating measures and adding a little originality to the remix as well, with custom composition.

As an additional benefit to the show's presenter, we managed to capture better video footage of the event than the paid videographer, and so we were able to syncronize the original music remix we created with the video footage and produced a professional DVD of the event.

Computer Animation - Anatomy of an Eighth Note
A simple animation with 5 crystal spheres which bounce in time to music we composed to go along with it. Each crystal creates a different tone as it bounces off the floor, and several different rendered angles show the interesting patterns created as the crystals refract the light from colored spot lamps located above them. Five additional aluminum spheres bounce with the melody.

This animation is contained on our demo reel as an example of how graphics animation and music can be composed and syncronized together, both of which we created right here in our studio.
